Welcome to The Nonsense Filter

Welcome to The Nonsense Filter, where we question the things we’re “supposed to” accept about aging. And whatever it is “they” would like us not to do? If you’re anything like me, that’s code for “let’s just go for it.”

Because let’s be honest: The saying made famous by Bette Davis, “Getting old ain’t for sissies,” feels more real now than it did at 50.

If it’s not the weight creep, it’s the turbocharged wrinkling. The knees ,with a lot to say, have been joined by concerns about blood pressure and bone health.

The assumption that disease finds us, mental faculties leave us, and little by little, we become someone we never wanted to be.

Yeah, no. Not happening.

The Problem Nobody Talks About

You’re drowning in health misinformation AND being told to accept that “getting older” means “going downhill.” That may be someone’s reality, but if you’re here then we have something in common – it’s not going to be ours!

Not if I can help it. And I have a feeling that like me, you want to do whatever it takes to stay vibrant, sharp, connected, and healthy. As long as the “what it takes” doesn’t steal the joy, fun, and flexibility out of life.

Enough Is Enough

Here’s the thing: I’m done with that decline management narrative that keeps us quiet, sick, and living at half mast. Done with being told what’s possible—and not—at this age by people with no idea what it’s like or who we are.

And don’t even get me started on the healthcare system, more aptly named the sickcare system, is broken, and you’re not crazy if you feel confused and frustrated by all the conflicting information.

This isn’t another wellness newsletter filled with recycled tips about drinking more water. This is your go-to source for:

  • Science-backed strategies that actually move the needle
  • Real talk from experts who challenge the status quo
  • A bit of woo (because sometimes the unconventional stuff works)
  • An 80/20 kind of lifestyle – no deprivation required
  • Reality checks on everything from influencer supplements and diet recommendations to the tests and procedures you might need and which ones you can skip when

I’m not naive enough to believe that our bodies don’t change or that there won’t be aches, pains, and serious problems. But because I know I have less time left than I’ve already spent, and I don’t want to miss a minute battling illness or being sidelined by an injury, I’ve spent nearly 30 years developing an informed, skeptical approach to aging.
